Winckelmann-Reimer Gambit - variations
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.a3 Bxc3 5.bxc dxe black may avoid the gambit by not playing 5....dxe. Although this is strictly not the gambit I have put games with moves other than dxe on the database At a future date I may give analysis of the gambit avoided.
After 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Bb4 4.a3 Bxc3 5.bxc dxe 6.f3 black has a wide range of alternatives.
- 6....exf Accepting the gambit is very risky.
- 6....Nf6 White tends to do well against this move .
- 6....b67.Nh3 is a very effective answer.
- 6....Bd77.Nh3 is a very effective answer.
- 6....e5 This solid defence is attributed to GM Hubner
- 6....c5This move is crucial. There is a mass of theory.
- 6....e3 This move tamely gives back the pawn.
- 6....Nc6 This move is not as good as it looks.
- 6....Nd7A sensible defence keeping open the possibility of c5.
- 6....Qd5 Just what patzers love doing, developing the queen at the first opportunity.
- 6....miscellaneous moves there are plenty more tries for black..
