Amazon is the collective name for belligerent hordes of womyn with self-government. Helen Diner: Mothers & Amazons

In the matriarchal queendoms lived Amazon warriors who were thought to possess supernatural powers. Early tribes of Amazons mostly lived without men, but later in the development of the tribes, some included males in their social structure. The Amazons were suburb huntresses, horse-whisperers, strong warriors and powerful tribes of wimmin who had an intense psychic and magical connection to horses (sometimes seen as a symbol of their strong desires). I have renamed this card, which was previously The Chariot, after these Amazon priestesses and charioteers.
Warrior goddesses have always inspired us: Artemis, Athene, Neith, Epona, and Boudiccea, womyn of strong will and independence who direct their wills from places of power. In the tarot the chariot-driver is a strong-willed warrior who drives the chariot (lives her life) with authority. She is performing this act of will and test of strength, and at the same time, creating her reality. She keeps balanced while moving at high speed: which requires her to be centered. It is a test of strength coupled with will. She is allowing her intuition to lead her, hence the absence of reins with the horses. The chariot is an intense fast-moving energy that requires inner peace and self-confidence to control. From her place of inner equilibrium she is able to focus, concentrate, balance, and create her outer reality with great success. She is achieving her goal, and conflict between forces is being resolved. This could mean that previously conflicted parts of yourself are now working together for your benefit. There is a suggestion of travel or achievement of things of great magnitude. This card indicates that battles of great will are being won, and long-standing habits are being broken. Progress is secure. Victory is yours through determination and action.
Reversed or tilted, The Amazon card warns you to be careful because the horses could race in different directions and the chariot could be torn in two. It can also mean you are in danger of being thrown off center: outer rockiness due to inner struggle. Perhaps you are not taking yourself seriously or acting in the disciplined manner that is necessary to achieve desired results. Inner peace is required before attempting to drive the chariot. Be good to yourself and take time to prepare for feats of great magnitude. Skill and care are essential when dealing with concentrated power.
