The 2008 Newcastle Open will be the 25th Aniversary of the event and because of this we have extended the tournament to a 2 day competition.
The format has been devised to give every player full playing value for money and all players will qualify for 1 of 3 finals on the second day. Therefore, everyone intending to play should make provision to be available for the 2 days.

Day 1: A full Swiss tournament of 6 rounds of 7 point games. All players will play 6 different opponents during the day.
Qualification for the different finals on Day 2 will be seeded by the final standings of participants in the Swiss Tournament based on WINS and POINTS SCORED.

Day 2: The Top 8 players will qualify for the Championship Final. A Double Elimination tournament. 7 point matches on the winning side, 5 point matches on the losing side up to the final on the losing side which will be a 7 point match. The Championship match(es) will be 9 points.
Prize money will be 65% of total entry fees plus trophies 1st and 2nd. Winner 75% of the prize, second 25%.

The next 16 players (rank 9-24) will play in Consolation A, a single elimination final. 7 point rounds into a 9 point Final.
Prize money will be 25% of the total entry fees plus winners trophy. Winner 75% of the prize, second 25%

ALL OTHER PLAYERS (rank 25-??) will play Consolation B, a single elimination final with byes ranked on the players qualifying positions. All 7 Point games
Prize money will be 10% of the total entry fees plus a small winners trophy. Winner takes all of the prize.

EXCEPTION: NB: If there are less than 8 players left to make up the field for Consolation B (eg, less than 32 total competitors) the players will be transferred to Consolation A, byes will be ranked on qualifying positions and the prize money will be halved and added to the Championship and Consolation A pools.

Entry Fees: $60 (100% returned as prize money).
Bonus Pool entry: $40. The Bonus Pool is won by the highest finishing entrant of the Bonus Pool. Therefore, the Bonus Pool winner is not necessarily the winner of the Tournament.

Starting times for both days will 10:30am.
