He
is certified by both the American Board of Surgery and the American
Board of Plastic Surgery, and is also a Fellow of the American College
of Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and the
Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He is known and respected internationally for his work in aesthetic
plastic surgery, in particular for his research on facial anatomy
and consequent development of improved techniques of facelift and
eyelid surgery, known as the extended
SMAS technique.
After
graduating in Melbourne, Australia, Dr. Mendelson trained in surgery
at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in America for six years. He was
then awarded a Fellowship in Aesthetic Surgery from the Institute
of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at New York University, where
he trained for a further year, particularly
in the evolving field of improved facial surgery techniques, before
returning to practise in Australia.
He
has been Visiting Professor of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin
and the University of California (UCLA), as well as Guest Surgeon
at key international conferences. In 2000 he will be the Erich Visiting
Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
Dr.
Mendelson is a regular panel member at international plastic surgery
conferences and has published a significant body of literature in
the major surgical
journals and plastic surgery textbooks.
Dr.
Mendelson practices from his private clinic in Melbourne, Australia
where he performs the full range of cosmetic surgery procedures.
