Go to Map
Often during my planning of a trip, I
find that it is sometimes a tedious process in locating campsites for
overnight stays - whether they be normal caravan parks, showgrounds or
sports grounds with shower and/or toilet facilities, or just suitable
locations for rough camps. Often as a result of my tours and/or
tour planning process, I come up with a number of alternative sites or
opportunities along the way. In order to save myself from
duplicating research at some later stage for a subsequent trip, I have
prepared the map below with points that I have either stayed at, or seen
along the way, or found during research. If you have any of your
own that you might like me to include, just send me a note with their
name; lat/long; and what facilities are nearby and I will update this
page with that information. You can
download the zipped GPX file containing the sites to upload to your mapping
software or GPS by clicking on the button above.
Names may vary from time to time, but
the locations don't. However, before your trip, it is wise to
check that they are still in existence. Caravan parks close down,
and NPWS sometimes close down campsites to allow for rejuvenation.
Also refer to the Links
page for other website information for camping and caravanning sites.
As a guide, I have used the following
symbols
 |
Campsites consisting of rough
camps with no facilities; campsites in State or National Parks;
roadside rest areas with some/no facilities; and, showgrounds or
sports grounds with some/all/no facilities. Some of these
sites will incur a fee. Wherever possible, I have used the
following to provide what I consider to be the important pieces
of information when looking at campsites.
|
W |
= |
Potable water from
either town or tank supply or purchased bottled water
nearby. If there is nothing with the "W", or its
permutations, you should carry water if it is your
intention to camp there. I have not been able to
verify that water from any source is available at these
sites. |
|
W/B |
= |
Water that needs to be
boiled before drinking |
|
W/B/? |
= |
Water that needs to be
boiled before drinking but may be of uncertain
availability, such as seasonal streams or roadside rest
area tanks with small roof catchments |
|
T |
= |
Toilets ranging from
normal sewage systems to bush drop toilets |
|
S |
= |
Hot or cold showers |
| |
|
|
|
 |
Hotels, motels, B&B's,
hostels or cabins. In some instances, it has been possible
to camp at/behind these locations with the owner's approval and
use some of their amenities. Usually there is a fee
involved.
|
 |
Caravan parks of all types.
They range from the very basic to the more elaborate. For
the latter type, I show "$$" in their description to indicate
that they are expensive. It does not suggest value for
money.

To obtain more information about each
of the campsites marked, place your cursor over the icon and double
click on it to see the name of the site and the town/location, as well
as other information as indicated above. To obtain the lat/long
co-ordinates, drag the map so that the icon is in the centre of the
cross-hairs in the middle of the map. The lat/long of the
cross-hairs is shown in the bottom left hand corner of the map.
