Aviation Degree Courses
|
The aviation degrees provided by Flight Training Australia and Griffith University allow students a range of study options designed specifically to meet the international air transportation industry. Today, successful careers in all fields of aviation await those who are educationally prepared. Flight Training Australia is an approved training provider for Griffith University’s School of Aviation offering the following aviation undergraduate degrees
Over 36 months student will complete the academic requirements for the degree along with the following aviation qualifications necessary for a successful airline career. The degree is delivered by two distinct organisations. The academic section is delivered at the School of Aviation, Griffith University, Nathan Campus, whilst the flying training is taught by Flight Training Australia, at Archerfield Airport. Each compliments and enhances the other’s contribution. Approximately 10 hours per week are spent at Flight Training Australia during the academic semester, but it is expected that most students will need to allocate additional time to the flying segment of the course during semester breaks. Essentially the degree is designed to be completed in three years of full-time study or its part‑time equivalent. |

Manual Propeller Pitch Control
& Retractable Endorsement
|
When you first begin your training, you fly an aircraft with a “fixed pitch” propeller. This means the blade angle is pre determined. Simple and effective, it allows you to get on with the learning to fly. The manual propeller pitch control means an extra control in the aircraft – so that you can vary the blade angle in flight for greater efficiency and speed. But there is a bit more to it than just that. In addition there is also the retractable bit – wheels go up and down! Again more speed and efficiency. |
|
| On satisfactory completion of the syllabus, students are flight checked. The flight check is approximately two hours in duration and is conducted in the Cessna 172RG. | |

Tail Wheel Endorsement
|
Tail wheel
aircraft require a higher degree of manipulative skills and are generally
more demanding than the tricycle type. This endorsement is a great source
of self-satisfaction when mastered. |

Aerobatic Endorsement
|
Nothing improves a pilot’s confidence or skill like aerobatics. Having explored the limits of the aircraft and the pilot, a realisation is made that normal cruising flight is well inside the extremities of both. A pilot who has seen even only a few aerobatics is just a little more competent. This endorsement does not fit into any of the previous training, but is none the less thoroughly recommended. |

Formation Endorsement
|
Formation flying is arguably the most satisfying, demanding and skilled form of flying there is. It calls for dedication, determination, concentration and courage. Like any flying, discipline is the essential ingredient and having learnt how to do it, the next time you watch one of the many military teams putting their aircraft through their paces, you’ll appreciate how skilled they are. Two students are required at a time – obviously you can’t learn to fly in formation alone! Because so many students are in this school at any time, it is never hard to find someone who wants to do the endorsement with you. Briefs precede the flying lessons which are initially given by staff and then subsequently by you. In the air you share take offs and landings as leader and wingman. We break the endorsement into basic and advanced routines. |

Initial Multi-Engine Rating
|
This course is designed to teach a qualified pilot how to fly an aircraft with more than one engine. The principles learned and practiced during this rating apply to many multi-engine aircraft through to airliners. This training may be for the pilot who merely wishes to learn to fly a twin-engine aircraft, it may be part of the Commercial Training Program or it may also be part of an Instrument Rating. The time required to achieve this rating will vary depending on the pilots’ initial level of performance and experience. |

Command Instrument Rating for PPL Pilots
|
This is the rating that allows you to fly in cloud – in other words, go anywhere at anytime in any weather. The rating can be accomplished in either a single or twin-engine aircraft as long as the aircraft has approval to be flown in cloud. The training quoted below is the minimum required by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. However, there is a minimum requirement to meet a set competency standard to be safe. To meet this standard, any additional training is charged at standard rates. |
|
| On satisfactory completion of the syllabus, students are flight checked. The flight check is approximately two and a half hours in duration. | |

Command Instrument Rating for CPL Pilots
|
A Commercial Pilot must hold a Multi-Engine Instrument Rating to carry fare paying passengers in all weather conditions. Commercial operators usually require their pilots to hold this qualification before they can conduct charters in their twin engine aircraft. This syllabus of training is the same a PPL holder may undertake, except that it credits the CPL holder with the 10 hours instrument flight time conducted during commercial training. |

FTA Theory
|
Associated with each licence or rating is an aeronautical knowledge (commonly referred to as 'Theory') requirement. Throughout the flying training program a student will be faced with a number of written examinations in order to demonstrate their level of aeronautical knowledge. There are several options open to students preparing for these examinations, including self-study, but we think you will wish to take advantage of a full-time theory course here at FTA. It is important to obtain a thorough understanding at each stage of training as this provides the foundation for later learning, and will also enable you to get the most from your air-time. The courses are run on a continuous cycle (so there's never long to wait for the subject you want) and are programmed to fit with your flight training schedule. |

flying aeroplanes and will be required to familiarise themselves with
aviation terminology. Topics examined will include an introduction to
flight documentation, principles of flight and airport procedures.
Students will
be introduced to more efficient operation of the aircraft and basic
navigation skills. Topics examined will include flight rules and
procedures and aircraft systems. The aim of this phase is to provide
students with the knowledge necessary to operate an aircraft safely under
a variety of conditions, including solo flight away from the vicinity of
the aerodrome. This is the final phase of Block One and will include an introduction to weight and balance, basic meteorology and the calculation of take-off and landing performance. The aim of this phase is both to consolidate and develop the knowledge gained during previous phases. At the completion of Block One all students will sit the Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK) exam which is necessary prior to attempting the General Flying Progress Test, and is a prerequisite for the Private and Commercial Examinations. |
