The incorporated
Company of Barber Surgeons together with the Wax and Tallow Chandlers
was formed on 10 Oct 1442 in Newcastle on Tyne. Meetings were held
in a variety of places. Their old meeting place was leased out in
1834 to Newcastle School of Medicine and Surgery and in 1850-51
demolished to make way for the North East and Railway Company. A new
meeting hall was then built in Victoria Street, Newcastle

to the Company on 6 May, 1844 at the Barber Surgeon Hall having been
previously apprenticed with James Carr, Barber Surgeon. Certificate
signed by two wardens of the Company

I have found info for you on Francis Stephenson born 24 4 1801on the 1841 census . He was living next door to his brother John Stephenson in Silver St, next to Dog Bank, Newcastle. Dog Bank became the centre of the family furniture broker business.
