Susan Old, the Online Parish Clerk for St Columb Major supplied a
wonderful response to a query on Colen's baptism. She mapped out
three
generations back, for someone who had been a very murky figure to us.
Angela Plant's tree on Genes Reunited has supplied some stuff on this
page has children
Research Notes
LDS
There is an Elizabeth
Coad christened in St Columb Minor in 1718,
parents Walter Coad and Thomazine Manly, who could well be John's
bride.
Interesingly, Walter and Thomazine's children are called Walter
(1718), Elizabeth (1718), Robert (1723), Thomasine (1728) and Catherine
(1730). All five names are in John and Elizabeth's family. Also Walter
and Elizabeth were christened ion the same day
But that birth of Katherine in St Columb Minor is a bit sus. She is
christened 27 May, three days after the wedding, and nine months before
Ann's christening
It is all very confusing, but the St Columb Minor Elizabeth is
probably a 50% chance?
The second Elizabeth Coad' who married William in
1785 could well be the one christened in St Columb Minor 1756,
daughter of Thomas and Joan, though there are a dozen scattered around
Corwall born about the right time.
The John Tippett born
in St Columb 15 Mar 1719 looks right, and there are no other good
candidates. If we accept him, can we find a marriage for Roger and
Mary? Nothing in LDS, but FHO nas Roger Tippett marrying Mary May on 23
Feb 1718/19 in Little Petherick,
which is about five miles north of St Columb Major. Again not clearcut,
but a 50% chance?
