The Australian Selects team exists to provide an opportunity for future National Team players to develop their skills and to experience international competition. The team is selected by invitation to girls from all 6 participating states. Invitations are sent out based on observation by the coaching staff with input from the National Women’s Program Staff, State Associations representatives, and local coaches. This is generally done in the December or January prior to the trip. In July 2008 the Selects team traveled to Sweden to attend Peter Elander’s SWISH Hockey School. Coaching and management staff were Tamra Jones, John Harvey, and Deliah Onorato. The pace was grueling and the competition fierce, but the girls impressed both the local and international coaching staff with their determination and ability to improve rapidly.
