The National Women’s Program in conjunction with Ice Hockey Australia will endeavor to hold Grass Roots Development Camps throughout the year.  These camps are aimed at girls who are not yet a state or Selects level but wish to become so.  Four camps have been held so far...in Canberra in November 2005, Newcastle in February 2006, WA in June 2006, and Newcastle January 2008.  The camps were well attended and instruction was given on:

On and off-ice training

Pool recovery

Nutrition

Basic Strategy

Basic Rules

Equipment Sizing

The NWP are also coordinating “Girls Hockey Days” around the country, aimed at promoting the sport to females under the age of 12.  The first camp will be held in Sydney at the beginning of 2009.
