2011 Newcastle Open Backgammon Tournament Results

2011 Newcastle Open Winner Adrian Pitt	Runner-up Rachel Cathcart (Brenton Littlewood background mug..LOL)

Man walks into a backgammon tournament and.................well, I had a senior moment and couldn't recall Adrian Pitt's name for the life of me. Even thought he'd won 3 Newcastle Open's in the past the name to the face just wouldn't enter my head.
Had to remember it by the end of the tournament though as Adrian won the 2011 Newcastle Open by 9 points to 3 from Newcastle's Rachel Cathcart.
Adrian took home the $500 winners prize as well as the $300 bonus pool while Rachel collected $190 for 2nd as well as the major portion of the Club Member's bonus.

Adrian defeated Bevan Disney (who was first up after a 3 or 4 year break) in the semi but it was Rachel who looked as though she may have the tournament at her mercy when she defeated runaway Club Championship leader Mick Dyett by 9-4 in the semi-final. Mick had steamrolled through the qualifying rounds scoring 28 points while conceding only 7 but could find no match for Rachel's dice on the day.

25 players attended this year's Open with the Bitels, Carol Wakelin, Elie Aslanian, Jay Deva and Steve Clarry (all from Sydney) and Simon Woodhead, down from the Gold Coast joining the locals for the day.

Shaun Harding won the raffle prize of 2 bottles of wine kindly donated by the First Creek Winery.
