ADPC Round 2, Webgame#29

In progress...

Turn 5, I double back to try and help out ???, who promptly chooses strait and accelerates to 130 mph.

ADPC Round 3, held 03/02/2001

Date: April 1918, French vs German
Location: Western Front, deep over german lines.
French SPAD XIII vs German Fokker Dr.1.
Altitude: 6100 feet
All pilots were 0/0 (no surviving pilots available!)

6: Doyle (Dr.1 +49)
5: Michael Hill (SPAD XIII +47)
4: Simon Hoad(Dr.1 +28)
3: Pedr Gurteen (SPAD XIII +21)
2: Brendan Robertson (SPAD XIII -7)

The aircraft started at 6100 feet, with the Germans enjoying a 500 ft height advantage.
The first 4 turns saw attrocious shooting, with everyone but Doyle scoring minimum 3 hits on those occasions they DID hit. Michael took 3 hits to the engine on the first turn.

Turns 5-12 involved a lot of manoevering, with the Fokkers taking advantage of their superior climb and turn to force the SPADs to take 300' side shots on most occasions.
In this period, Simon jammed both guns and didn't unjam the second until attempt 7; meanwhile, Doyle also jammed both guns and promptly cleared both guns on the first attempt, he also had his seat shot out from under him.

Turn 13-18 saw the tide start to turn in the German's favor, as first Brendan, then Pedr and Simon all bugged out.
During this game, I had not scored a single hit, but was starting to accumulate damage at an alarming rate due to a long string of inferior initiative rolls.

Turn 19-22 was a dogfight between Doyle and Michael, neither wanting to take an escape penalty. Michael finally took 2 more engine hits and disengaged with 1 jammed gun, but got away. Doyle followed him all the way back to the airfield, before turning home, not wanting to risk ground fire by shooting him on the deck. All pilots were home and healthy.

ADPC Round 6, held 12/03/2001

Date: 8 June 1918, British vs German
Location: Western Front, German Front Lines.
British SE 5a vs German Fokker D.VII (160)
Altitude: 4700 feet, 20 mph wind from the East
Mission: British Ground Attack (Trenches)

8. Brendan Robertson (Fokker D.VII +82)
6. Doyle (SE 5a +78)
5. Michael Hill (SE 5a)
4. Cian (Fokker D.VII)
3. Simon Hoad (Fokker D.VII)
2. David Hoad (SE 5a)

The British started 9900 ft from the target, so the first 3 turns saw general manoeuvring with the Allies winning initiative nearly every turn. Loaded down as they were with bombs was the only reason the German's weren't wasted on the spot.  Doyle ("Doyle" 1/0) proceeded to tail Simon (Hans Gruber 2/0) for 3 turns, doing moderate damage as they flew back towards the front!  Cian (Klaus Killemdinger 0/0) & Brendan (Vernan Westlich 2/2) had set up to cover any forward motion, however Simon chose wingover & failed to take advantage of this.

Turn 4 had Michael (Anthony Spear 1/0) dive towards the target, leaving the german's temporarily behind. Simon had also had enough at this point & shook Doyle from his tail before streaking away to escape.

Turn 5-7 was the Allies getting closer to their target; even rolling a 6 initiative roll they still beat us Germans! I was starting to get worried at this point I still hadn't gotten mission credit!

On turn 8 the 2 remaining Germans caught up with 2 of the SE 5a's. Michael shot Brendan on this turn inflicting a nasty RW crit (-30 turn, no fancys/banks) which never became obvious to the Allies.  Brendan proceeded to tail David (Willy Wanker 0/0) and wasn't shaken for the rest of the game; even though Brendan couldn't do any fancy/banks.  I stayed at 100' tail (still missed twice!) as I could only physically fly 8 of the 16 cards anyway!

Turn 9 saw the first successful bombs dropped on the trenches, with David scoring a bomb hit at the same time taking a fabric tear on one wing from the tailing. Ground fire started coming into play at this point, *dense* ground fire. Luckily for the Allies, there were only 4 AA enabled MGs defending the trenches.

Turn 10 was more of the same, with all the Allies coming down and lining up for their runs on the following turns. Doyle started tailing Cian after missing his first bombs (and suffering hits from 3 of the 4 machine guns!)

Turn 11, Michael hit with his first bombs, Doyle & Cian continued their dance, as did Brendan & David.

Turn 12 had Micheal swung around for another run with an extra shot at Cian on his way past.

Turn 13, Michael hit with his second bombs & promptly felt a great weight lifted from his aircraft; David also dropped his second bombs for another hit.

Turn 14 ended the game with Doyle hitting Cian for 1 last turn and Brendan shooting off David's LW with only 1 gun on Long Burst (the other had jammed the previous turn).

Overall it was a successful mission (+15 pts each) for the Allies, but Doyle failed to score any hits & still had bombs left when we finished. This game went very slowly and took 6 hours! Further games will have a definate 3 hour clock limit for game length.
