Gunslinger Duels

The gunslinger duels evolved from differences of opinion about ship design.  The initial duel pitted an Free Cal-Tex superdreadnought against an ESU 'Komarov' class Superdreadnought; a classic matching of speed vs firepower.

In this first battle, the difference was regarding the effectiveness of massed class-2 batteries against the range of class-4 batteries.

Final Analysis

The massed class-2 beam batteries vs class-4 batteries proves the
benefits of range over damage. 'Trial by Combat' scored 32 points from
Pulse Torpedoes & 43 points from beam batteries. Yet 'Sovremenny'
scored 68 points from beam batteries alone, 18 points of which was
without reply from TbC.
TbC's superior maneuverability played a major role in the middle stages,
managing to keep 'Sovremenny' from bringing it's forward batteries to
bear, while maintaining pulse torpedo fire itself.
Another interesting note, once both ships started losing weaponry, it
was actually easier for 'Sovremenny' to recover a greater percentage of
it's weaponry each turn due to the larger mounts. As soon as 'TbC' lost
weapons, there were insufficient DCPs to bring them back on line before
destruction. Instead, the Pulse Torps were repaired as the fastest way
to recover offensive capability.
