Minimax in BASIC The original Minimax is a didactics chess program written in QuickBASIC 4.5 by Dieter Steinwender and Chrilly Donninger in 1995. Minimax has now been converted to a Winboard chess engine by Thomas McBurney in 2003. Minimax was ported to PowerBASIC Console Compiler 3.02 and Winboard support was then added to it. A number of enhancements have been made to Minimax so that it can participate in automated computer chess tournaments with out any problems. Minimax now has simple time management, it understands the 50 move rule, it also understands three move repetition, support for FEN and will also claim a draw when there is insufficent material to mate.
